Several overseas pulp mills plan to close or suspend production in the second half of the year

Stora Enso said that structural changes in the Finnish timber market, including no longer importing timber from Russia. The increasing market competition, led to a significant increase in timber costs and the company's Sunila pulp mill in Finland was no longer competitive. The company will permanently close the plant in the second half of the year( the plant produces 375,000 tons of conifers per year, employs 270 people and accounts for 13% of Stora Enso's total commercial pulp capacity).

After UPM Fibres' Kaukas plant in Finland (with an annual output of 700,000 t of needle pulp) plans to stop production in the second half of this year, the production line of NORDICKRAFT Pulp Plant in Canada (Nordick) with an annual output of 300,000 t of needle pulp plans to temporarily stop production, which is expected to stop for 2 to 3 weeks, because the forest fires have reached 500m away from the pulp plant. The resumption of production depends on the fire situation. However, this factory has no trade volume to China in the past two or three years.
